Indian Head Massage has many beneficial effects: relaxing the muscles, relieving stiff shoulders and neck, eye strain, tension headaches, sinusitis, migraine, nightmares, insomnia and disturbed sleep. It loosens the scalp and stimulates the natural oils of the scalp to nourish the hair follicles promoting healthy, glowing hair. IHM helps to release blocked emotions and energies bringing about physical, mental and emotional balance through calm, peace and tranquillity. This can relieve anxiety and stagnant energy to improve concentration and clearer thinking. Most importantly it balances the chakras, soothes and heals the soul and is simply blissful to receive.
Indian head massage is part of the Ayurvedic healing system which originated in India thousands of years ago and has been passed down through generations. Indian Head Massage was developed by the women in India to stimulate long, healthy hair since this was a sign of wealth and beauty. It was later brought to the west by “Narendra Mehta” in the 1970s. Narendra found, after moving to England from India, how much he missed the therapeutic effects of Indian Head Massage. He realised that the only way he would be able to receive one again would be to train people in this ancient art. Narendra is now internationally known as an expert teacher of Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage is performed with the client seated comfortably in a chair (fully clothed) or with the addition of oils (partially clothed) for added therapeutic benefits. The oils can be infused with herbs, essential oils or a mixed blend of oils depending on the client’s needs. The massage covers the back, arms, neck, scalp and face and takes around 45 minutes.
This ancient technique can benefit almost everyone but should not be performed on anyone with a high temperature, low or high blood pressure, head or neck injuries or severe medical conditions (in this case we recommend you seek advice from a qualified medical health practitioner). At Balanced Energy Beauty Spa + Health Clinic all the therapists delivering this treatment are properly trained and qualified in Indian Head Massage and can adjust the treatment to suit your individual needs.
